日本を代表する女性歌手。
1998年「つつみ込むように…」でデビュー以来、「Everything 」や「逢いたくていま」など数多くの名作を発表。全作品販売総数3,000万枚以上を記録し、アジア全域においても人気を博している。5オクターブを誇る音域と圧倒的な歌唱力は観客を魅了し、エンターテイメントを追求した完璧なまでのライヴパフォーマンスは海外でも高く評価されている。
2004年には女性ソロシンガーとして日本初の5大ドームツアー開催。
2008年には日本をはじめ、台湾、上海、シンガポール、ソウル、香港の５都市を含む、アジアでのアリーナツアーを開催。
2009年から2010年にかけて行われたロングツアー『星空のライヴV Just Ballade』まで累計250万人以上の観客動員を記録。

2010年3月これまでの功績を認められ、国連本部より生物多様性条約の会議(COP10)の名誉大使に任命された。同年5月に世界的課題を音楽やアートを通じて普及啓発することを目的に設立された一般財団法人mudefに理事として参加。
2010年8月には世界的な音楽プロデューサー、デイビッド・フォスターによる新曲「LIFE IN HARMONY」を制作。生物多様性をテーマに作られ、COP10オフィシャルソングとなった同曲はフォスターからも高い評価を得ている。

Profile
Born on July 7th in Nagasaki. A female singer representing Japanese music scene.
Since the debut in 1998 with the single ‘Tsutsumikomu youni…’, she has released many hit tunes such as ‘Everything’, ‘Aitakute ima’, etc. The number of total CD sales hit more than 30 million.
Her 5 octave range, overwhelming voice and the amazingly entertaining live performance gained her high reputation both at home and abroad. In 2004, she became the first female singer who had a concert tour at 5 biggest domes in Japan. In 2005 she performed at ‘Love The Earth’, Aichi International Exhibitions of which theme was ‘Nature’s Wisdom’. Also she held an arena tour in Asian cities such as Taiwan, Shanghai, Singapore, Seoul and Hong Kong in 2008. Since her debut, the concert tours have mobilized more than 2.5 million audiences.
She has also been actively committed to the social action and in 2005, she participated in G-CAP(Global Call to Action Against Poverty) campaign in Japan. She has organized ‘Africa Benefit Live YOKOHAMA’ aiming at raising awareness on the social issues around Africa and the world in time for TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) IV in 2008. Also participated in the event which calls for poverty eradication with U2 Bono and Youssou N’Dour.
In 2008 she proposed the establishment of Child AFRICA. It engages in social action with the global perspective such as assistance activities especially in the area of education in a good cooperation with international organizations. In March 2010, MISIA was appointed as an honorary ambassador for the tenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in appreciation of her commitment to social action.
